SOME IMPORTANT EVENTS AND DATES THAT ARE COMING UP!


Exhibition Week: June 6- June 10

 Please remember that this week is exhibition week. Please check your time and make sure that somebody is present for your child’s presentation.


Field Trip money for the Toledo Zoo is due on Friday, June 10

 Please send your child’s money for the field trip by Friday. The cost for students is $6.00. As of right now I have enough chaperones for the trip. Please call me if you were still planning on coming.

School Carnival: Friday, June 10 5:00-7:30

 Don’t forget to purchase your wristband or tickets for the carnival. Please contact the office for information on prices about games and food. Please come out the carnival is ALWAYS a lot of fun.

Lighthouse Award Ceremony: Tuesday, June 14 @ 9:00 in the gym.

The teachers will present students with awards for academic accomplishments and progress. Please come if you are able to support your student. After we will have refreshments in the classroom with “mock” awards that I have created for the students.

Field Trip to the Toledo Zoo: Wednesday, June 15 8:45-3:00.

 The lighthouse’s last field trip of the year will be to the Toledo Zoo. Please make sure you watch the weather and dress your student appropriate with walking shoes. Both students and chaperones will need to bring a lunch that can be thrown away.

Interview Questions

Today students talked about what they wanted to know about being in second grade. Students are supposed to pick 5 questions and think of 2 of their own. Here a list of the questions that students came up with.

  1. Do you have a reading class?
  2. How different are your exhibitions?
  3. Do you have social studies and science?
  4. What kind of centers do you have?
  5. Do you do number scrolls?
  6. What is your village called?
  7. What time is your lunch?
  8. Do you have morning meeting?
  9. What time is ampt?
  10. What time is recess?
  11. What kind of things do you do in second grade?
  12. Do they use journals?
Please have your child pick 5 questions that they want to ask and make up 2 of their own. 

Interview with Police Officer Jones

Students were really excited to talk to officer Jones. We talked about what the difference is between a good question and what is a bad question.  Students were really great at asking him questions and waiting for a response. 



The students had some really good questions, here a couple:
  1.  Do you get free things?
  2. How is it being a police officer?
  3. How do you stay healthy?
  4. What made you want to be a police officer?
  5. Have you ever met anybody famous?

Mystery Reader

We had a very special guest come and join use during our village time.  The "GRIZZ" from Oakland University stopped by to read to us.



Milestone#4 Reminder


Don’t forget that tomorrow THURSDAY, MAY 26 the complete visual aid is due. Students need to bring in the information that they are going to talk about during their exhibition. This can be organized any way that your child is comfortable presenting. For example you can have a poster board, a book with the information in it, a binder any way that your child will be able to talk about their exhibition. Hands on Museum



I know that I'm late, however here are the pictures from the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. The students had A LOT of  fun. They were able to see, and touch a lot of different science experiments.

Our field trip to Wayne State Planetarium

Friday we walked to Wayne State campus to visit their planetarium. The students not only enjoyed taking a relaxing walk, but they also were amazed during the planetarium movie and the physics experiments.

Planetarium Field Trip

Last week I sent a note home about an upcoming field trip to the Planetarium.

When: Friday, May 13th
Where: Wayne State University's planetarium (space)
Transportation: Walking
How much: $1.00

The students will spend the morning there and will return to school for lunch. Please let me know if you would like to come along. In case that it rains we will reschedule for a later date.

Today our students were able to have join Mrs. Woosley class while they SKYPED with Mrs. Drain's class (she is a fifth grade teacher on the third floor) during morning meeting. We did greeting, sharing, and an activity.

Well exhibition week has come and gone : ) I am so PROUD of each and every one of my students. I can see the growth in every area academically, with maturity, and also with their presentation skills. GREAT JOB! I also want to send a BIG THANK YOU to all the parents. I understand how hard exhibitions are and how just trying to fit it in into everyday life may be difficult at times. However, you have proven over and over again that you take it seriously and it shows in your children work! YOU ALL ARE DOING A FABULOUS JOB AND PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT  : )

The foundation is being set right now and I believe that each student is building on a very solid rock! ( I will continue to post pictures throughout the day)

First Day of Exhibitions!!!!!

Exhibitions week has officially started and if I do say so my self..... IT HAS STARTED WITH A BANG! Students are doing a FABULOUS job!!!! GREAT JOB FRIENDS!!!! Here are some of them that the class witnessed today!
