Holiday Homework Packet/ NO SCHOOL REMINDER!

Students received a "holiday homework packet" this consist of skills that students can work on over the break. Parents expressed the need of trying to find something for their child to do over the LONG break! Please this was not intended for your child to do in ONE sitting. There is a total of 14 pages (this breaks down to a page a day just like regular homework) Most skills students should be able to complete on their own or with some guidance.

Also I just wanted to remind everyone that there isn't school on Monday, January 3. This is a professional development day for teachers.  School resumes on Tuesday, January 4 2011.

ENJOY THE BREAK AND HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Holiday Party

On Friday, December 17 at 1:30 we will have a holiday celebration in our classroom. We will decorate cookies, watch a movie, and enjoy snacks.

To make our celebration complete, I am asking for parents to donate some treats for the students to enjoy. If you can, we would love to have cookies, brownies, chips, juice, veggies, fruit or anything you think might be good to send along. I have already been given cookies, and popcorn (THANK YOU!) I also already have enough plates and cups.

Please let me know if you plan on sending along any treats. Thanks for all your help and support!

REPORT CARDS/NARRATIVES

Narratives are our schools version of report cards. These were postponed because of situations beyond my control. However, students will be given their narrative tomorrow in their folders. Please be on the look out!

I am thankful for......

This week in my classroom we have been talking about Thanksgiving and how it's a time not only to eat good food, but to think about the things that we are truly thankful for. The students had a lot of fun telling each other what they were thankful for. If you have time please come see your child's work on display in front of the classroom. Also I will be sending these home after Thanksgiving these are DEFINITELY a "fridge" decorator!

Last Weeks Shinning Light

Shinning light is an award that the lighthouse village gives out each week to recognize certain students for academics progress. However, last week I  witnessed something that truly was an act of kindness. During our center time there there just happened to not be enough seats for everyone to sit. Jordan Armstrong took it upon himself to give up his seat to the young lady.
He said and I quote:
"you can have my seat"
Girls reply: no that's okay
He said "are you sure?"

Jordan received the award for being a perfect gentleman! Great JOB!!!!

PAPAER SHORTAGE!

The kindergarten and 1st grade floor is currently out of paper until January.
If anyone can afford to donate white printer paper, we would GREATLY appreciate it!  This is, of course optional.  We understand that paper can be expensive and that not everyone will have the time or money to purchase paper for the classroom.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Writing Workshop

Everyday students have writers workshop. During this time students write down "small moments". Small moments are true stories from the students lives. Students are beginning to learn and use tools in the writers process. Students take a planning sheet (graphing sheet) to plan our their writing. They are to choose a topic and write down 4 sentences dealing with that specific topic.

This helps the children focus on just one story instead of writing down everything that comes to mind.
From their students transfer their writing to actual writing paper to read and share. The next step will be editing their work.

During writing we have a "no talking" time where students are expected to limit their talking and focus on their writing.

In addition to "no talking" time students also listen to classical music

Shinning Light

CONGRATULATIONS KHAI STEVENS for receiving the shinning light this past week. She received the shinning light for not giving up with her writing. Good Job!

Picture Day

Don't forget that picture day is tomorrow. Students do not have to wear their uniform if they are getting pictures.
