Details about the field trip on Monday/MILESTONE! #2

We will be departing from the school at 8:45 to head down to Ann Arbor for the play. I will make sure that the students all go to the bathroom prior to getting on the bus, and that they have a snack before the show. Please be sure when you are packing your child's lunch that you put it in a brown paper bag,  only pack items that can be thrown away, and also pack things that don't need to be refrigerated. We can't save anything and students don't like holding their lunch boxes.

Also, if you have not done so already MILESTONE #2 is due on Monday. Please fill out the sheet that was sent home or on another piece of paper. Please make sure that they have it on Monday.

NEW VOCABULARY/WEDNESDAY "EXHIBITION WORK DAY"

Today to continue with the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King the students and I looked at a poem about his message and pulled out some words. The words we looked at were: strive, equality, and honor. We talked about the different meanings of these words and what it means in the poem. I'm sending the poem home today so that you can read it together and maybe talk about it.

REMEMBER..... that today is Wednesday and so there will not be any homework to give you time to work on your exhibitions. It has also been brought to my attention that it is sometimes hard to get the necessary materials that you need to work on the exhibitions. My classroom is also open for you to work on your projects. I will have a bin labeled "exhibition resources". The bin will include children scissors, glue sticks, markers, and crayons.  You may use these to work on your projects and also if need be I will set up an area where you can keep your projects in the building. The computers will also be available for you do either do research and use.

Reminders!

Just a reminder.....

Please send your child with a change of clothes in their backpacks. We've had a lot of accidents lately and it just makes everything a little easier when the student has their own clothes from home. Thank you in advance!

PAPER TOWEL ROLLS!

I am asking if you could please donate a paper towel roll. We are going to make number scrolls in math and need them to complete the project. Thanks in advance

Milestone #1

The first milestone is due on Wednesday, January 12. To prepare for the exhibition you should be working with your child to find different books or articles pertaining to the person they chose. Once you locate books or an online source read to your child about the different accomplishments and or life of there specific person. The purpose of this project is so that students will know about the different ways African Americans have contributed to society.

When students bring in their resources they should be able to talk a little about what the article or book is discussing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR/ DATE CORRECTION

HELLO!!!! I hope that everybody had an extremely peaceful holiday season and is rejuvenated! Remember that for this round of exhibitions there are milestones that students need to meet. Yesterday the students received a note explaining that WEDNESDAY'S from now on are called:  "EXHIBITION WORK DAY!" Please take this time to work on your exhibition.

The first milestone is for students to bring in some of the resources that they are using for their famous African American. This can be an online article, book or whatever you and your student are using for research. STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE RESOURCE IS AND TALK ABOUT IT.

The date for the milestone that was given earlier is incorrect. The correct date is WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12. If you have any questions please email or call me.
