THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU! Students were earger to dig into the food that was donated. The menu consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, greens, stuffing (not dressing), and macaroni and cheese. IT WAS A HIT!!!

Students were seated across from their kindergarten neighbors

Parents were even in line to get some of the that good food.

Students were told that they could have "dressy free dress" which meant no jeans or sweat pants I had some really cute friends come to school ready for a dinner party.

The Lighthouse Thanksgiving Feast

The Lighthouse is serving Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday, November 22 at 11:30. Our neighborhood has been asked to bring assorted pies to the table.  If you have offered to help us with our Thanksgiving celebration then please bring your dish no later than 10:30 a.m. so that our volunteer servers will have time to set everything before the children eat at 11:30. We ask that each family who has signed up to donate food contributes enough to feed 10-12 children. Thank you again for your generous contribution to our celebration!

Students may wear "dressy free dress" on this day as well. Please no jeans or sweats! Thanks again!

I am thankful for......

This week in my classroom we have been talking about Thanksgiving and how it's a time not only to eat good food, but to think about the things that we are truly thankful for. The students had a lot of fun telling each other what they were thankful for. If you have time please come see your child's work on display in front of the classroom. Also I will be sending these home after Thanksgiving these are DEFINITELY a "fridge" decorator!

Last Weeks Shinning Light

Shinning light is an award that the lighthouse village gives out each week to recognize certain students for academics progress. However, last week I  witnessed something that truly was an act of kindness. During our center time there there just happened to not be enough seats for everyone to sit. Jordan Armstrong took it upon himself to give up his seat to the young lady.
He said and I quote:
"you can have my seat"
Girls reply: no that's okay
He said "are you sure?"

Jordan received the award for being a perfect gentleman! Great JOB!!!!

PAPAER SHORTAGE!

The kindergarten and 1st grade floor is currently out of paper until January.
If anyone can afford to donate white printer paper, we would GREATLY appreciate it!  This is, of course optional.  We understand that paper can be expensive and that not everyone will have the time or money to purchase paper for the classroom.  Thank you in advance for your support.

Writing Workshop

Everyday students have writers workshop. During this time students write down "small moments". Small moments are true stories from the students lives. Students are beginning to learn and use tools in the writers process. Students take a planning sheet (graphing sheet) to plan our their writing. They are to choose a topic and write down 4 sentences dealing with that specific topic.

This helps the children focus on just one story instead of writing down everything that comes to mind.
From their students transfer their writing to actual writing paper to read and share. The next step will be editing their work.

During writing we have a "no talking" time where students are expected to limit their talking and focus on their writing.

In addition to "no talking" time students also listen to classical music

Shinning Light

CONGRATULATIONS TO TALIA, TYSIN, PAIGE, AND KHAI FOR RECEIVING THE SHINNING LIGHT FROM MRS. BRYANT!

CONGRATULATIONS KHAI STEVENS for receiving the shinning light this past week. She received the shinning light for not giving up with her writing. Good Job!

Picture Day

Don't forget that picture day is tomorrow. Students do not have to wear their uniform if they are getting pictures.
